My name is Frank Harter, owner and creator of Raven Wing Flutes. My musical
background includes 12 years of formal musical training in my country of origin
(France), including 10 years studying classical guitar, 5 years studying the
piano, 2 years studying the cello, and 3 years of composition classes.
I started studying the art of crafting Native American flutes in the spring of 2001
with the help of my friend and teacher Raymond Redfeather (Anishinabe).
Raymond, a full-time flute maker located in La Veta, Colorado, received his
instruction in flute making from Master flute maker Michael Graham Allen, better
known as recording artist Coyote Oldman.
All my flutes are made by hand using a mixture of traditional and modern
method. All flutes are now made using a bored-out construction method. This
improves the aesthetics of the flute (no more glue joint) and insures an
accurate and consistent bore size.
The finger holes are burned rather than drilled, in keeping with tradition. Each
flute is unique, no two are exactly alike.
The flutes are tuned to a pentatonic scale, 5 or 6 holes depending on your
preference. All flutes are tuned using an electronic chromatic tuner to ensure
accuracy.
As of 2011, I no longer use the brass piece in the making of my block flutes.
I find that sound and volume have been improved as a result.

Hi Frank,
The flute arrived today at 11:30 AM. My
gratitude and satisfaction are beyond words. I
could say that it's beautiful but it's more than
that, I could say that I'm pleased but it's more
than that.
I like the denseness of the wood, the
simplicity of the lines...

"Frank,
The flute is a true work of art. It looks, sounds,
and even smells, amazing! The one-of-a-kind
wood, and your detailed craftsmanship,
makes this flute such a special treasure,
thank you.

"Frank,
I received the flute this morning. I have to say
that it's definitely a beautiful instrument. The
wood shines and the extra care you have
taken in protecting the wood's inherent beauty
is apparent. The tone is bright and,
surprisingly for its low tone, very responsive..."

"Hello Frank,
Your beautiful flute arrived today. Your
craftsmanship is excellent, the tuning is dead
ON, and the voice is very appealing...I really
like the softness it's capable of...This is a
great flute Frank, I'm a happy guy."
