BLOCK FLUTES (NATIVE AMERICAN STYLE):
Our flutes are available in 3 different styles:
- Traditional: Simple in appearance, with a traditional style totem. The
Traditional series includes burned (but not raised) rings around the flute.
- Red Rocks Series: Named after the Southern Utah and Arizona
deserts. These flutes feature decorative elements like inlays, raised rings,
endcaps, etc.
- Double flutes: One side plays only the fundamental note, the other side
is a normal flute. Features 2 embouchures, so you can play the 2 sides
separately or together. With a little practice, you can "cut" the fundamental
side in and out of your playing, making it sound like 2 flutes are playing
together.
RIM-BLOWN FLUTES:
The true flutes of the Southwest, these ancient "Pueblo" flutes are being
rediscovered thanks to the work of Dr. Richard Payne and of course, Michael
Graham Allen, to whom we are all indebted.
- Anasazi style: Haunting, melodic, this is a challenging flute to learn,
but the rewards are well worth the effort.
- Hopi/Small Anasazi style: Smaller than the Anasazi style, but with
the same capabilities and scale.
- Mojave style: A wonderful 4-hole flute in a pentatonic minor mode.
Please see my tutorials on the "Cool Links" page on how to play
rim-blown flutes.
